“My name is Portia Hightower and I am writing my very own magical girl manga called Magical Girl Institute!” The manga tells a story about 5 young adult girls on their journey of becoming official magical girls as they fight battles with the evil forces of the dark kingdom while navigating through life, finding love, and overcoming their internal struggles. I always loved anime since I was a little girl. I was most fascinated with magical girls especially Sailor Moon. I want to see more black women/girls and black men/boys represented in anime especially represented as magical girls and magical guys so I started a business called Generous Gifts and launched a sub-brand called Melanated Magical Girls. I worked with an amazing artist (IG: @keitherine_) to create mascots for my business and it sparked the idea to write my own manga that will one day become a television series. I was able to find an amazing manga artist online that brought my vision to life! I am self-publishing and that can be costly so I am asking for your support. I just launched my Kickstarter so that I can get financial support from people who also want to see more melanated people represented in manga and anime. The funds will go toward paying the artist to illustrate my manga, printing the manga, and shipping it to those who gave towards it. When you give, you will see the progress of my project and receive gifts/rewards. I hope to get my manga printed by the end of this year. Ah, it’s that time of the year again! Summer is close and that means we all have a lot to look forward to – no school, no university, less work, more free time, the sun, the beach… and of course, the new anime season! There’s nothing better than catching a break from all the euphoric summer activities by binging a summery, feel-good anime series. With that in mind, here’s a list of a few new slice-of-life drops, with beautiful animation and cheery plots, that are sure to keep you entertained. New drops With the new shows, it’s always a gamble… but we would confidently put our money on these ones. Bokutachi no Remake MAL really killed it with the description of this series: “This is a story about a failed person who is given a second opportunity to follow his dreams.” The show follows the story of a 28-year-old game developer who lost his job and returned to his hometown, regretting his life decisions. But, one day, he magically travels back 10 years to the time before he entered college. The plot really reminded me of RELIFE, and I really enjoyed that one, so I’m super excited to see how Bokutachi no Remake will unfold. Re-Main Sports anime – you either love ‘em or hate ‘em and if you hate them, it’s probably because you haven’t seen Haikyuu yet. Anyways, for all the fans of the genre, this one seems really promising. The art style looks great, the guys are super cute, and it’s about a high school water polo team (we all know what that means). Definitely worth adding to your to-watch list. Kanojo mo Kanajo These recommendations are purposefully light-hearted, fun watches, and Kanojo mo Kanojo is the definition of light-hearted. It looks like your basic harem anime, but there’s a twist. Apparently, the male lead, Naoya Mukai, finally got to date his childhood friends whom he had a crush on for years, but at the same time, another girl confesses to him so he decides to get the best of both worlds, by getting both girls. All with consent, of course, everybody agreed to this three-way relationship – you just have to see this one. Aquatope Of White Sand This anime just screamed summer to me, so I had to include it. It’s about an 18-year-old high school girl who works in an aquarium and meets this former idol who escaped from Tokyo. It seems to go over some deeper feelings and self-reflection, but the vibrant poster and loveable-looking characters are what really drew me in. Sequels For those of you who like to play it safe with the sequels of the already proven-to-be-great shows, we are getting two real gems this summer. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S We’ve all fallen in love with the first one, and the second season of Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon is surely not going to disappoint. That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Season 2 Part 2 The highly popular isekai with the bizarre title is getting part 2 of its second season, so grab your popcorns and get ready for some laughter.

Today is the last day for Netflix’s Geeked Week! If you never heard of this ever before you’re not alone since this is the first time Netflix is doing this type of event. Netflix’s Geeked Week is a virtual fan-facing event that reveals first looks into movies, and series that is upcoming this summer. They named quite a few new anime series and films they are releasing on Thursday. Although, we’re not surprised since in February 2020 Netflix announced that they will be partnering with several anime/manga creators. Here are a few projects that were announced yesterday: Mobile Suit Gundam:Hathaway Anime Film Netflix stated that they will begin streaming the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, Mobile Suit Gundam I, Mobile Suit Gundamn II: Soliders of Sorrow, and Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space films on July 1st. This man was wearing sunglasses even though it was late enough into the evening that the sun wouldn’t hurt anyone’s eyes. But one thing was for sure as I looked at him even more, he was expensive, his clothes were understated, but even I knew that they cost more than what I’ve made in the past few years combined. “Who the fuck are you? And why the hell are you in my apartment?” I screamed as I threw clothes at him as I backed up to the bat that I had purchased when I got into town. “Oh me?” He laughed as he easily dodged clothes. “I’m your neighbor. I got locked out, mind if I use your porch for a second.” He pointed behind him. Hearing him say that made me remember about what the landlord said about me now having to deal with the crazy-yet-hot neighbor. “Are you Gojo Satoru?” I asked as I pinched the bridge of my nose to ease the oncoming headache this has caused. “In the flesh.” He was grinning.
